Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2021

On 8-10 October, Lviv hosted the first Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography 2021, organised by the Scenography Gallery. The first ‘experimental’ step was the Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography. Preview in 2018.

Scenography in the modern sense is the art of stage space and costume. In fact, it is one of the most complex forms of visual art, but it is also quite unique and peculiar. A set designer embodies all his ideas, guided by the possibilities and tools that provide space for action.

This year's Quadriennale gave Ukrainian and foreign scenic designers the opportunity to showcase their work over the past four years. It was also a great opportunity for the audience to understand what contemporary scenography and theatre are like.

Lviv Quadriennale of Scenography - 2021 became a kind of free space for artists and gave them the opportunity to present their scenography, arranging and filling the “empty” space, as well.

The Quadriennale involved three locations in the city, three spaces and a street gallery, dozens of exhibitions, performances, lectures, symposia, workshops, film screenings, as well as a book drive and an art party.

There were unique open-air exhibitions and installations, and an international pavilion, which was joined by artists from Canada, Poland, Georgia, Lithuania, and Belarus.

The first two locations featured exhibitions, the opening of which was a significant event for Ukrainian stage design.

One more event of the Quadriennale was a street exhibition of Yevhen Lysyk's sketches on Lviv's city lights.
