The exhibition "Ukrainian Theatre Costume of the XX-XXI Centuries: Identity, Context, Landscape" will open in Lublin on 23 September

The exhibition "Ukrainian Theatre Costume of the XX-XXI Centuries: Identity, Context, Landscape" presents the works of Ukrainian artists who worked on the creation of theatre costumes at different times.


These are famous twentieth-century artists who made a great contribution to the development of Ukrainian art, including Vadym Meller (1884-1962), Anatol Petrytskyi (1895-1964), and Myron Kyprian (1930-2019). Their work is represented by a selection of museum photographs.


Contemporary artists whose work includes theatre costumes. These are artists who work in state national and municipal theatres all over Ukraine, as well as implement high-profile independent art projects. At the same time, we present the work of artists from different generations, regions, schools and styles: Hanna Ipatieva, Olena Polishchuk, Danyіla Kolot, Natalia Rydvanetska, Oleh Tatarynov, Inessa Kulchytska, Yulia Zaulychna, Liubov Dushyna and the project curator Bohdan Polishchuk.


As well as talented students from several universities who are now starting their professional careers: Vasylyna Bezherianu, Anna Mashkovska, Maria Chornoshkur, Kateryna Marchenko, and Kateryna Tyshchenko.


In the exhibition you will find photographs from performances, original costume sketches and realised costumes that will be presented on mannequins.


This exhibition will help you see the different manifestations and stages of development of theatrical costume in Ukraine, and will allow you to see how artistic processes took place in Ukraine during the war.


The exhibition is free and open to visitors during the week of 23-30 September.


The exhibition is part of an international project implemented by the Scenography Gallery NGO (Ukraine) in partnership with the Museum of Theatre, Music and Cinema of Ukraine, the PLACE ID Territorial Marketing Fund (Poland), in cooperation with the Rozdroża Centre for Intercultural Creative Initiatives, with the support of the Ukrainian Cultural Foundation and the Ukrainian Institute.
