PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This multi-layered international project covers different areas of work.
Its important component is the organization of professional photo-fixation of works of art. You can find a significant part of the developed photo materials on this website, created as part of the project. They are also published in a printed edition realized within the framework of the project and handed over to scientists of the Museum of Theater, Music and Film Art of Ukraine.
Preservation of our cultural heritage is relevant and really important for further research and popularization, especially when we are talking about it during a full-scale war of aggression waged by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, destroying or stealing a huge number of objects of our culture and art.
In addition, together with partners, three public exhibitions of works of Ukrainian artists were implemented within the framework of the project in September and October 2024:
September 23-29 in Lublin (gallery of the Center for Intercultural Creative Initiatives "Rozdroża")
September 24-30 in Lviv (Dzyga art center gallery)
October 5-14 in Kyiv (Museum of Theatrical, Musical and Cinematic Art of Ukraine)
The expositions of the three exhibitions are built in different formats, oriented to different exhibition spaces, based on slightly different combinations of authors and exhibited works of art. The main exhibits were printed rare museum photos and photos of modern theater productions, original sketches and costumes realized in the material presented on mannequins.
The purpose of exhibitions can be called the demonstration of the power of Ukrainian artists, the popularization of the art of theatrical costume to a wide audience, and the visualization of the durability of the Ukrainian artistic tradition for hundreds of years, which proves the self-sufficiency and maturity of Ukrainian culture.
ARTISTS PRESENTED IN THE PROJECT:
The project presents such significant artists of the 20th century for Ukraine as
Ivan Buryachok , Vadym Meller , Anatol Petrytskyi , Alla Gorska , Myron Kipriyan
As well as modern artists, in whose work theatrical costume occupies an important place. These are artists who work in state national and municipal theaters throughout Ukraine, as well as implement high-profile independent art projects of different generations, regions, schools and styles: Hanna Ipatieva , Yuliya Zaulichyna, Ludmila Nagorna , Inessa Kulchytska, Oleg Tatarinov, Natalia Rydvanetska, Lyubov Dushyna, Bohdan Polishchuk
And the talented students of several universities who are starting their professional creative path today: Vasylyna Bezheryanu, Hanna Mashkovska, Maria Chornoshkur, Kateryna Marchenko, Kateryna Tyshchenko
The project proposes to look at the Ukrainian theater costume, together with the Ukrainian theater and Ukrainian art as such, abandoning the optics of the Soviet or Russian context and connotations, which were aggressively imposed by imperial propaganda in previous years. It is important to realize the actual inseparability of the presence of Ukrainian artists in the common pan-European cultural context during at least the previous hundred years of history. Another important message of our project is the refutation of artificial narratives about art and the figure of the artist outside politics, state-building processes and national identity.
Catalog "Ukrainian theater costume of the 20th-21st centuries. Identity, context, landscape"
The catalog presents the diversity and development of theatrical costumes in Ukraine over 100 years. Offers to trace the durability of Ukrainian tradition, manifestations of national identity, which are definitely bright and expressive in the works of Ukrainian artists and artists in every period of history from the beginning of the 20th century. to the present day.
